It would be hard to imagine any wedding without flowers, lots of them. Weddings are one of the few times in our lives when we totally indulge ourselves in their beauty and splendor. To help simplify your wedding plans, and to avoid transportation headaches, select a florist in the Mackinac area. Flowers may not retain their freshness or survive the trip to Mackinac in your car. Local florists are familiar with Island locations and are equipped to deliver your flowers to the right location and be on time.
Jay Porcaro of Weber’s Floral and Gifts, states, “There are no traditional rules with flowers, so personal preference will determine choices and styles. Trends for bridal bouquets are returning to old fashion blooms such as lilies, daisies, gardenias, asters, and lilacs.” Jay also suggests choosing local seasonal flowers which may result in slightly lower prices, rather than expensive exotics flown in.
There are five ways flowers are traditionally used for weddings; bridal bouquets, ladies corsages, men’ s boutonnieres, flowers at the ceremony, and flowers at the reception. As soon you have selected your gown and color scheme, it’s times to start making decisions about flowers. For the reception select floral centerpieces for the wedding table and guest tables. Individual bud vases with a single flower at each place can be a simple way to combine the decoration and party favor. The buffet table might also be adorned with blossoms, and fresh flowers may be used as a cake topper. Inform the baker of this plan and they will be able to arrange the flowers as they assembles the cake. (see Cakes and Sweets)
The wedding carriage, gazebo, and the church will be more beautiful and evoke a lasting impression when adorned with flowers.
All of the floral experts listed in the Mackinac Wedding Guide magazine will work with you, offering suggestions and assisting with the planning and final details.
