No Mackinac Island wedding is complete without a horse drawn carriage ride. Lovers for centuries have used the horse and buggy to parade around Mackinac’s peaceful, scenic roads. Most brides ride to the wedding ceremony in a elegant carriage so the guests can witness her grand entrance. After the ceremony the bride and groom can continue with a romantic ride while sipping champagne and relaxing to the cadence of a team of high stepping horses.
The world’s largest horse and buggy livery, Mackinac Island Carriage Tours, offers seven different types of beautiful wedding carriages, complete with appropriately dressed driver. From their finest, the white Landau, to the seven passenger Miller Carriage, a unique opportunity awaits you, to be king and queen for a day.
Gough Carriage Livery, owned and operated by long time Island residents Dale and Jodi Gough, offers two types of carriages for your wedding, the eight passenger Justin Tour carriage and the elegant Victorian Vis-A-Vis.
Arrowhead Carriages
also offers two types of carriages for your wedding, the
brand new Arrowhead Classic and the traditional Islander
carriage.
These carriage companies book reservations year round and it is suggested that you call at least six to eight months in advance to ensure selection and availability. Whether the bride and groom elope to Mackinac for a simple civil ceremony or have a large lavish affair, a carriage ride will be the highlight of the day. All the wedding carriages are picturesque and make wonderful photographs so be sure to ask your photographer to accompany you to capture scenic images of the Island. These will most likely be your favorite pictures.
Transportation of guests from the ceremony site to the reception may also be arranged through either company. The Island’s taxi service can be reserved to have guests picked up and transported anywhere on the Island anytime of the day or night. Transport decorations, flowers, and even the bridal gown all by taxi too.
The finer carriages are very popular, so plan ahead and reserve them well in advance. On the big day, just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!
